Trailer of "The Invitation (Die Einladung)"

What was your drive behind making this film?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: My first professional short film "Showtime", a thriller, was made in 2011. I wanted to apply what I had learned in a second project. And since I'm a huge horror fan, it had to be horror.

How you feel when you are awarded with the MP FILM AWARD Award?

Thorsten Schade: We were all very happy. You experience appreciation. That's great!

Can you tell us about the greatest moment during shooting this film?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: Honestly? When the last scene was filmed. That feeling of having made it is very special. There are so many reasons why a no budget movie can fail. Then comes the last shot and every one is happy.

How rigorously did you stick to the script while shooting?

Thorsten Schade: Very consistent. No good movie without a good script. And every one liked the script. Why should we change it?

Where there any onset problems During the filming of the film & how did you deal with it?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: We shot four days and there weren't any major problems. Everything worked out wonderfully. Then came post production. Two cutters let us down. But if you ever get the chance to do a Director's Cut, you should take it. I did it.

Do you have any advice for young filmmaker out there? Or like yourself?

Thorsten Schade: Make movies you want to make. Believe in yourself and in your stories. Don't listen to people who always know better but don't take risks themselves. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. In my opinion, there isn't a story that hasn't been told before. All stories, even those that appear new to us, are variations on familiar themes. Make your thing out of it! Then it is something new!

Do you think it is essential to go to a film institute in order to become a successful filmmaker?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: No. But you have to acquire knowledge. A film institute is not absolutely necessary for this.

Which film has inspired you the most?

Thorsten Schade: I like horror movies. Shining, The Exorcist, The Omen, Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola are some of my favorite movies. But I also like Star Wars, Star Trek, Action movies and Thriller.

Which particular filmmaker has influenced you the most?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: There is no specific one.

Which book would you love to make a film out of one day?

Thorsten Schade: No idea. But it should have to be a horror novel.

If you got the opportunity to go back in time & change something in any particular movie of yours, then which movie & what changes will you opt for?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: Where should I start? A serious filmmaker is never entirely satisfied with his work. The next movie is always the better one.

If you were to shoot the film again, what would you do differently?

Thorsten Schade: I would shoot more footage for the car ride at the beginning of The Invitation. We didn't have much time and I decided against aerial photography with a drone.

What is your greatest achievement till date?

Behind the Scene

Thorsten Schade: My current short film The Invitation (Die Einladung)

How do you pick yourself up after a failed film?

Thorsten Schade: I keep in mind that every movie is an adventure with an uncertain outcome.
